School Production
Our main school production takes place in July, and we audition and rehearse from December onwards. We do a musical every two years and the plays that we do are always fun plays that make you think. There is always a large cast and all pupils are actively encouraged to audition, either for principal or chorus parts, or as part of our show orchestra.
In January, we also encourage students to apply to be part of our Production Crew team. The Production Crew is made up of three different teams (Costume design and production, Set design and production and Lighting & Sound) that create everything we need for each production. Each team is led by a 6th form student and has students from all year groups to support.
Previous shows have included "Blue Stockings", "The Sound of Music", "Little Shop of Horrors" and
"A Midsummer Night's Dream", "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe" and “The Witches”. Performances are always enthusiastically received by our audiences and are generally a sell-out occasion. This year we are excited to present “SIX The Musical”.
Throughout the year, we do 8 examined pieces across Key Stages 4 and 5 which parents are always welcome to come and watch. In the summer term, our year 12 pupils also put on a fun, short devised piece – their stimuli changes every year, so the content and style of the pieces are very diverse.
Our extracurricular offer is exciting and inclusive. We offer a Key Stage 3 Drama club each term run by KS4 students. Here pupils can explore technical drama skills and create a completely original show that we open to all students to come and watch. Alongside this, we offer an Improv Club run by KS5 students. Here, using Improv games, students learn how to think on the spot, gaining confidence to have a go! Students get a chance to test their Improv skills in front of an audience every term.
