House System

We have a very well-established House system which is underpinned by our PRICE values of Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Courage and Endeavour.

The Houses are named after seven planets:

Jupiter Mars Mercury Neptune Pluto Saturn Venus

Yellow Red Purple Blue Green Orange Pink

Students are awarded House credits when they display any of these core values, whether that is for academic effort and achievement, for displaying a ‘can do’ attitude, trying an activity which may be out of their comfort zone, or demonstrating consideration and respect for others.

In addition to House credits in lessons, the sixth form House Officials team, led by the House Captains, devise and run a carefully-planned series of House events and competitions throughout the year. These range from Diwali events to Nonsuch Book Week competitions, House Talent Show, Nonsuch Master chef and School Sports Day.  There are also many inter-house sports events run by the PE department.

Here are some examples of the events the House teams have organised and run throughout the academic year, taking into account public examination periods and study leave in sixth form:

We value participation in all school activities very highly, as we want to encourage our students to value teamwork and gain communication and negotiation skills as these will stand them in good stead in their time at school and beyond.

Each year, we have a House Birthday contest where the lower school take part in form competitions organised by the sixth form team. There is also a whole school House Assembly each term where we publicly celebrate those students who have achieved their House Colour Badges as well as the many students who have displayed remarkable talent and ability in a wide range of competitions.

Each year, the House Birthday Cup is hotly-contested.  Every House credit awarded to students counts towards their overall House total.

Through the Nonsuch House system, we celebrate and recognise students’ achievements as well as their courage in trying new things and working as part of a team – and we encourage them to have lots of fun!
