1st Dec   OPERA TRIP
On the 1st December, the Music Department went to see Verdi’s highly acclaimed Il Trovatore at the Royal Opera House in Garden. The production was amazing; there was fire, many tears and much blood involved. Despite the opera being extremely dark and cruel, the singing was sublime and left the students (and teachers) awestruck!

School ChoirOn Sunday 27th November, 32 Nonsuch girls along with Miss Waller and Mr Reeve sang Handel’s Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall.  It was an incredible experience, singing with full orchestra, organ, four professional singers and 1000 other youth choir members!  The girls had been practising their choruses since September and their hard work paid off.  A massive thank you goes to Mr Lutton for running the rehearsals prior to the concert itself.

On Saturday 19 November, Sophia and Anastasia took part in the Kingston Music Festival. They performed the duet: Sabre Dance by Khachaturian in the ‘Own Choice Duet 15 years and under’ class.  They were graded outstanding and came first in their class and also across all duet classes.  They have been invited to attend the concert and prize giving on 10 December where they will collect their Cup. Congratulations girls!

On Saturday evening, Nonsuch Chamber Choir, along with Miss Waller, performed with Epsom Choral Society at St Martin’s Church.  Accompanied by organ, piano and orchestra the two choirs, along with tenor soloist performed a moving rendition of Britten’s challenging cantata: St Nicholas. The girls performed their part with such maturity and precision, receiving many a compliment from both choir and audience alike. The choir were also lucky enough to perform solo too and their sublime performance of Karl Jenkin’s Adiemus received much enthusiastic applause and praise. The girls should be extremely proud of themselves as the Britten is really not an easy work; most school choirs would not even begin to attempt such a challenging work!   Well done indeed!

Autumn Concert 2016 - 111The Autumn Concert was a tremendous success and all those girls involved should be extremely proud of their performances! We had a complete variety of musical styles on show, with performances ranging from Symphony Orchestra to Ukulele Group, to African Drumming Ensemble to Chamber Choir. Each ensemble showcased their talents with composure and finesse; the quality of musical performance was exceptional! Unsurprisingly, tickets sold like hot cakes and the Hall was completely full! Congratulations to all the girls involved - it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening!

The Music Department would also like to thank all the staff, students and parents who kindly volunteered their services to help with the evening’s performance.

On Tuesday 18th October we were treated to our first Music Tea of the academic year. We had a great array of many different performances, ranging from a Telemann Sonata for oboe with cello continuo and piano (played by Posha and Sabrina, both in Year 11), to Sophie’s (Year 12) own composition in the style of Einaudi and Imaan’s (Year 8) cover of ‘A Thousand Year’ by Christina Perri.  It was a great afternoon and we are very grateful to the PTA for providing us with lots of delicious treats.

Well done to all the performers involved!
